Overweight is Justin's apology to all those who were weighed down by the weight of carrying the burden of his addiction. It's him owning up, admitting his wrongs, his self destruction, and telling the ones who he put thru hell and who had to carry him, who were hurt, who he let down, that he realizes everything now, making no excuses and being brutally honest, and it was an attempt at telling them he was sorry for all the pain and burden and chaos they were forced to deal with while he was too sick and reckless to deal with on his own. And it's a thank you and a vow to make amends and to change. To make them proud and to start carrying his own weight and then some... I wanna give the world a piggyback and take away some of my negative effect, I wanna treat the ones I love with respect... Etc. It's him grown up and present and believing in himself and recovery and seeing light instead of darkness, for the first time. This song makes me cry because it is so much like my son's father. He's not able to carry his own weight right now though. I tried introducing him to Blue. You can't save people though, not til they're ready to change. Like Justin was, eventually.
