Songs with Figurative Language

When we hang our lyric tapestry upon the breeze and sculpt the air into poetic phrasing, our laces are bound to get tangled in the winds of change. Wait, what was that? That was figuratively speaking, using poetic metaphors, similes, and expressions to bend the language to suit our message. These songs are almost always beautiful to the ears, even if they're daunting to the comprehension.

Truly, sometimes songwriters just wing it. there's dozens of interviews out there where the lyricist admits that they just jotted this song down in 15 minutes on the back of a bar napkin. Then they'll sheepishly admit that they have no idea, themselves, what a particular line means, but it sounded good at the time. Or as Don McLean answered once when asked what "American Pie" meant for the last time, "It means I never have to work again."
