"Hold it together, birds of a feather,"- on the outside he is trying to keep his life together. "Nothing but lies and crooked wings,"- his life is a lie and nothing is sitting right for him. "I have the answer, spreading the cancer, you are the faith inside me,"- he knows he is depressed and why it is spreading like a malignant cancer, and only Death is giving him faith. "No, don't, leave me to die here, help me survive here,"- he is unsure if his suicide attempt will work and is begging death to take him and help him survive in the afterlife, not in the situation he is in. "No, don't remember, remember,"- he can't remember when his life was at least okay.
Put me to sleep, Evil Angel, open your wings, Evil Angel,"- he is telling Death to take him and welcome him into the afterlife with "open wings." "I'm a believer, nothing could be worse, all these imaginary friends,"- he believes that nothing is worse than the situation he is in, and he is going crazy with grief. "Hiding betrayal, driving the nail, hoping to find a savior,"- someone has betrayed him, he is going to drive the nail into his past, and death will be his savior. After the 'no, don't leave me to die here/help me survive here,' is "No, don't surrender, surrender," he is telling Death to surrender to his attempts at suicide, and to just take him.
Thank you for viewing my interpretation and let me just say that, for the record, it is rare that a twelve year old girl has the intellect to know and interpret the lyrics to this song, especially with the mind-numbing mainstream crap we have now. However I thought it was about someone killing someone else. Not murder or anything but for mercy. One of the people can't survive on there own so they ask someone else to kill them.
I think the evil angel is death. Where it says "Put me to sleep evil angel. Open your wings evil angel" Death is often described as an Evil Angel. Also where it keeps repeating "Surrender" Is like The man surrendering to death.
Finally the part where it says "Why can't I breathe, evil angel" Is him dying.
I could be wrong though and this is only my opinion. -
I think the term evil angel can be used in another way. This makes me think of fallen angels, creatures that started out as perfect and pure but somehow rebelled against God and were cast out. It makes me think of gaslighting when it comes to people, saying how the person used to be nice, used to be cool, used to be an angel, things said when someone sticks up for themselves against people who are supposed to be there for them, sometimes even parents. Or maybe they made a mistake and got hurt but people blamed them for it. Those people become outcasts due to rumors and such, and that leads to shutting people out, closing into yourself. Maybe Ben is someone similar, explaining "birds of a feather". Spreading the cancer could be maybe people seeing them together further fuels the rumors as those kinda people are hanging out. The parts about being left to die, being a believer having faith, all seem like Ben is optimistic in the idea that things will be okay, maybe he believes that together the two can be better people or get through their issues, maybe she helps ben but doesn't open enough to let him help, SHE still has trust issues and isn't ready to let him help. She puts him to sleep, opens her wings to protect him, flies over him like a guardian angel. Maybe he can't breathe because she's not giving him room. By giving him all the energy or love or whatever she's smothering him, but not like she's too clingy for him, but like a wall they both push. She's pushing and pushing giving ben what he needs, possibly to get him away as she has some inexplicable feeling she can't cope with, while ben has no room to give to her. She's pushing that wall and it's crushing him, and she isn't letting him give anything to her. So she's left with the empty space, and Ben can't breathe, he can't release that love he's been given hes holding his breath, and when he releases, she doesn't let him take in the "air" so he can't give her anymore because she can't handle her internal need for it as well as the anxious cautious need for solitude to avoid being hurt. That's how I take it because that's a situation I've been in more than once. But my "evil angel" let me in

I think the song is comparing two situations and saying they are alike to make a point about how he sees Jesus at the time. The first verse is about someone with cancer being taken from him. Look at the second verse through the eyes of Judas, the friends were the disciples, the betrayal, the nail... Pass over me..., referencing passover. In the end though, Ben seems to be making Judas appear as though he was looking for the warrior king and not someone on a donkey, "never surrender" and ultimately why Judas, as broken hearted as he may have been, was still wrong.

I read through a lot of these and am a little surprised I didn't see an interpretation similar to my own (though I may have missed it if there was).
To me, the entire song is a metaphor for sleep paralysis: anyone who has experienced it or knows of it will be able to draw the parallels. The sense of dread, loss of breath, looming figures, calling out for help when no one can here you are all documented experiences associated with sleep paralysis. The rest of the lyrics are mostly filler that discuss ones beliefs in the paranormal or afterlife associated with he accompanying trauma of the experience.
Again, just my interpretation, but I think it's all there, even if that wasn't the intended meaning of the song. -
I think evil angel is a girl who he loved but maybe she hurt him in some way.

I think the crooked wings are hers; meaning she isn't really as innocent as she seems. Birds of a feather flock together right? I think he's saying they're more alike than she wants to believe. -
I am a huge fan of the band. I have heard him speak breifly of the song while on tour. The song is about the Vocalist, Benjamin Burnleys struggle with alcoholism.So in fact it is about addiction. The Evil Angel is the Bottle my friends.

This song is basically about a person who has lost all faith in his life and has already realised the harsh truths of life.
If we really go line by line then we might just deviate from the actual meaning of the song because Breaking Benjamin do not really rely heavily on lyrics. It's the mood of the song and the way Ben puts forward his voice, that makes them such a special band.
Coming back to this song, it's pretty easy to guess that this is probably a person crying out to so called "God" and asking him for all the injustice that was served.
The album Phobia was basically an album which was written about Ben's different kinds of phobias. Death is one of the many fears which Ben has and this song is probably asking out to God to help him survive all throughout his life.
As I already mentioned, it's really not necessary for a band to write interpretable lyrics and so let's all have our own personal views on this song -

In my eyes, it seems like this person has cancer, in the beginning he's trying to work through life with it, then he gets the answer about it; that it's spreading, so he begins to. He begins to break down wishing to live from this, but on the other hand he begins to look at death as an answer to end all the pain he goes through. He seeks santion in his family and friends, though they root for him, he feels that they had given up and that's when he begins to surrender to his fate, begging for death
