This is pure escapism. The singer is telling someone “you’ll never see the end of the road while you’re traveling with me.” He doesn’t promise a victory, only that they won’t lose. Whatever bad happens, we can ignore the realities and turn over to the TV page in the newspaper. It’s a prolonging of something inevitable. I don’t think it’s about addiction, but it is relative to how addicts put reality on hold.

I always took the bit "When the world comes in they come, they come to build a wall between us" very literally. I thought it was about the Berlin wall, although I'm not sure how that timeline would compare. I just kind of assumed the rest was talking about stuff in the world. If this were the case I'm sure they would have said something, but just my thought process.

As we go through the stages of our life, there are times we feel powerless, but keep the faith. Whether it's love of person, money, drug, power, we have to be careful not to shut down what made us whole in the first place. Find your voice again and carry on.

These lyrics state he wants to be in her heart but her shadows get in the way.. He wants her to release them and have her freedom. -
It's about a love that is in jeopardy because of external forces. The line that is repeated " dont let them win", gives the impression of a battle of forces at play.
Who "them" is could be an interpretation of anything in the world (outside) or from within, that causes negative conflict in a romantic relationship causing it to end. "I'm counting the steps to your heart" indicates a willing of a reunion or fight to stay together and therefore, not allowing these dark forces to win. Two lines and the title add up to a beautiful interpretation of a willingness to let love win. -

Well I don’t disagree with the interps that the song is about overcoming hardships, I see the meaning as more specific: addiction and it’s effect on a relationship. The first verse seems to deal with the struggle with sobriety and setbacks”. Verse 2: an episode of relapse. Verse 3: a new search of sobriety. The chorus: the struggle to stay sober is ongoing and full of obstacles. I’d rather feedback on this interpretation and again, I’m not directly disagreeing with any of the other insightful and sharp interps on this page.

Enduring. "The world" can be unforgiving- and tempting one to move away from togetherness and unity- and instead towards "success" which has often become synomous with individual accomplishments and wealth. The song reminds us that WE are ONE and that "this world" of external distractions/dilemmas (news/tv page) will fade away and leave us in the full realization that we face this life and reality- not as single/lonely people (how it may often feel in this disjointed modern world), but as threads in the web of the ultimate reality

This song can be reflected upon to a guy and a girl both in already existing relationships, but falling in love with each other and have this dream of being together in love with one another for it to be real, yet know it’s impossible due to particular situations in their existing relationships whether in marriage or commitment of their own partners. Long distance relationships and hidden relationships from their existing relationships has a part. Dreaming of being together knowing it is impossible for it to happen makes it to where one or the other wants to forget about it and move on causing a temporary or sometimes a forever heartbreak. The song here Don’t Dream, It’s Over the guy and girl dreaming of being together both don’t win. Dreams are dreams...reality is reality. Too many other hearts to break. Easy to just call off the hope.

To me, this song is just about life. But everyone interprets it in their own way and I find that interesting because no body is really wrong. Overall I think its just about how there is struggles but there is also some really beautiful things in life. And sometimes it is difficult to get to them. And sometimes because of the situations we're going through in life, we are quick to think that it will never get better or in a realtionship of any kind whether it be romantic or friends we are quick to think it's over because of differences, it's like we shut the door on our self's sometimes and kick ourselves out. Ya know? Don't dream it's over as in don't be quick to call it quits in any circumstance. I think "you'll never see the end of the road while your traveling with me" is especially beautiful because no one wants to be abandoned and I think that's just about total dedication to someone until the end. Through good and bad.
