In my personal opinion mike is talking about some close him he grew up with. Whose family fell apart at a young age and was forced to live with his addiction ridden father who physically and
Mentally abused him. Each day that went by that that kid stayed in that situation his outlook on life and quality of like got worse. Mike could see his attitude fade from red to black metaphorically speaking of course. He could see the sadness and hurt take over that poor kid. And change his life. my personal favorite on this album is slip out the back. Forget perfect I’m trying not to be worthless is so heavy. And extremely relatable. I feel like I’m doing the same thing. Having a son from a failed marriage my most important goal is to be a good dad for him and not be a worthless shit bag that barely shows up. Coming from a line of shit bag dads lmao I’m trying to break the generational curse and be there for my kid and hopefully we won’t make the same mistakes I made and will be a way better person than me.
