Eyes Wide Open Lyrics
With our eyes wide open we ....
So this is the end of the story
Everything we had, everything we did
Is buried in dust
And this dust is all that's left of us
But only a few ever worried
While the signs...

It's about global warming. We consume more and more because that is human nature. A few of us are worrying about environmental degradation and tell the others, but it doesn't keep people from living the lives they are. People won't change because no one else will and no one wants to carry that burden themselves. In the end, we will destroy ourselves fully knowing of the problems we could have fixed.

It's about human bad behaviour everything clear if you read the lyrics. Destroy nature for short better life, no care for other people opinion, cowardice to take the first step for break the current lifestyle. And many more
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think the what they're saying here is that the earth is our home and we need to have our 'eyes wide open' to help protect it before it's too late

Clearly, it's about us looking all of our problems right in the eye, but being so numbed by all of the atrocity, to the point that it makes us look on in a blank stare, so to speak... Instead of actively combatting it. Hence the saying, "Eyes wide open".

I think this song could be interpreted so many ways, but outside of the typical Global Warming explanation, I am pretty certain it is about the world financial and social crises that plague the world and are growing today. From the continued Allied campaigns in the Middle East, to the inevitable collapse of the Euro, to the threat of war in Asia. It is a very complex song that begs debate and discussion. I love it and believe Gotye, if he stays popular long enough, could become one of the great performers of all time.

It's not just about global warming but all terrible things humanity has done and is still doing because little of us have tried to do anything about it.

It's not about global warming..... Its about the new world order, and it's a warning to all of us to open our eyes to it, before its too late.
Only a few ever worried... Which is the awakened people, all the other sheeple just consumed and bought into what the elitist want you to, and when the time is right, and they own everything, including us, it will all be too late for the people of this earth.
GLOBAL WARMING is not real. Consuming things doesn't have any effect on how hot or cold our environment is. EVERY PLANET'S temperature is going up, not just ours. It's a cycle that our galaxy goes on as we go up and down in our universe. Look it up, get educated.

it's about global warming and how few of us started to do something, then gave up.
anonymous Jan 4th, 2012 1:57pm report
The song speaks about how we gave up. It's almost like a poem about what we are looking around at. We saw the end coming, but we just acepted it. Instead of worrying about it, we just continued without any worry.
But only a few ever worried
Though the signs were clear, they had no idea
You just get used to living in fear
Or give up
When you can't even picture your future"
We just didn;t think about what could happen, and we just walked right into it. It's like the song says, we are walking a plank to our death, wityh our eye's wide open, we just aren't thinking about what's going to happen once we get to the end, and then we aren't giving the solution to not reach what we inwardly know will happen
