   My brother and I played the song a lot with our band Candy Shoestring.We weren't into drugs.We saw Jimi in Memphis and a guy threw his straw hat on stage and screamed Foxey Lady.Hendrix replied you don't wanna hear that s**t!I think it was about his girlfriend who someone or a good friend was messing with and hooked his girlfriend and had to be around his children to be screaming at them.We played the Atlanta Pop Festival 1971.Hendrix was there.He was really screwed up.He flew in on a helicopter due to the traffic i'm sure.There were 450;000 people there and the lineup from Woodstock. Alex Cooley was the Promoter from Atlanta.He was really f**ked up.They had to hang his Strat on him and he proceeded to play his ass off.He died a couple of months later.The dumb emi in the ambulance laid him down and he died on his on barbituate vomit.Those drugs relax the the sphincter muscle in the esophagus.When he died our front door blew open and his poster blew off the wall
   Wild!We loved the guy.See you in the next world and do;t be late!Could have met him twice.Heard the record co. or his agent wanted to keep him on drugs.So sad.Sorry to go on.

   I agree the song is about freedom from drug addiction and it's effects on a person and family.

   I interpret This song to be about Jimi's desire to kick his drug habit. Freedom from drugs
