Song Released: 2009
Mowgli's Road Lyrics
Cuckoo, Cuckoo
Cuckoo, Cuckoo
Cuckoo, Cuckoo
Ten silver spoons coming after me
One life with one dream on repeat
I'll escape if I try hard enough
Til' King of the Jungle calls my bluff
Oh Lord (Oh Lord)

#1 top rated interpretation:In this song, Marina is struck with a major question. What are you going to do? After she has become a 'star', she wants to define herself. 'Mowgli' is an obvious reference to The Jungle Book, and the character she is using in this scenario. She is torn between being unique and following her dreams, or becoming another generic popular artist, sticking on the safe side. If she does what she wants, she knows she takes the risk of losing her fame. Overall, this song is depicting Marina's internal struggle between being unique or sticking on the safe side. "It's about there being two roads in fame and the industry. When I wrote it, I didn't know whether I was meant to be some kind of weird indie artist or a big pop thing. At the end of the day, I just thought, 'You can be both if you want'. I'm a leftfield artist but I want to be really successful. You know, I think celebrity culture and sexuality in pop music is really important, but I want there to be an alternative for people."
