   I believe it's true and a reflection on his past and upbringing,he has sadness in his past, happy memories, tragedy, and all seem fresh in his mind and it is a heart felt song one of my best from meatloaf.

   This Song has a true meaning yes he was abused by his alcholic father and he lost a true friend from his childhood days. These are memories that meatloaf is re-living even today.

   Object in the Rear View Mirror is a sad celebration of Life. It celebrates a chain of relatable tragic events that makes up a human life. The bottom line of the song tells is that while these events may have happened long ago chronologically and far away geographically, they are still fresh in memory and close by heart. Encouraging you to move on, learning and strenghtening from these events.

   I believe that this song is deadicated to long lost friend who passed away in an horrific accident I also believe that he uses strong interepations of love for his first love and also pain hate and anger from his terrible past that occured with his abusive drunken father.

   He's talking about memories actually being closer in his heart than they are in time. He remembers everything just like it was in front of him now but it was a long time ago.
