Tangled in the Great Escape Lyrics

Well don't you say that I had a part of it
Guess we'll never know
Or would you say that I had a part of it?
Well I guess we'll never know
Constant recovery
I see you choke and it takes my breath away
But all is good, we close our eyes

I wrote this about one of my best friends who got hooked on some pretty serious drugs. It got to the point where I was so scared that if he didn’t get cleaned up soon, I knew he was going to die. I felt so powerless because I am always on tour and there’s no real way for me to help someone like this from so far away. I flew out to Detroit to do some co-writing with my friend B-South (Brian Southall). We had done a lot of work together on our side project Isles & Glaciers, so I hit him up to see if he’d be down to make some more songs. By the time I got back to San Diego we had written 5 songs in 5 days, but this was the one that fit the album the best. I asked our friend Jason Butler from the band letlive. to sing on this song for two reasons. One being that I have a lot of respect and admiration towards him as a singer and as a person. Two being that he is straight edge, and I thought maybe he could relate to the lyrics and topic in some way. Special thanks to Jason for bringing this song to life.

I heard this song was about Mike Fuentes (Vic's brother) he was addicted to drugs and Vic does his POV while Jason does Mike's POV.

this song is about Vic's friend i believe. the guy did drugs and basically messed himself up and ended up in the hospital and died i think. Also it could be a song about self harm.

I believe this song is about person who self harmed and told everyone he was fine but he wasn't and everyone believes it ("they all accept the lie") except one person he knows the person isn't fine and tries to help but the person pushes the friend away one day the person tries to commit suicide but the friend stops them and cries and confronts the person that it hurts them too and the guy realizes he isn't just hurting himself he is hurting the people who loves him "I never met to hurt nobody i only ment to do this to myself."

I feel like the song is about someone attempting suicide (the great escape) and they are stopped in the middle of it by a friend or someone close to them (you're tangled in the great escape.) It's about someone having to lie to people about possibly cuts/burns/scratches/etc (self harm basically.) Everyone believed the lies. No one helped the person, much less noticed.

I think that 'the great escape'is self harm (so, the great escape from mental pain.) I've selfharmed too and you actually get addicted to it. If you've done it once, you wanna do it another time, because it turns the mental pain into physical pain and that's easier to deal with. So that's why "Tangled" is added. -so you're tangled in the addiction to selfharm-

    don't worry I'm 5 months clean now :)
