   I think Rihanna was trying to tell us that "Just because you're afraid to change and follow the light does't mean you should sit in the shadows and wait for it to come to you. Let the light guide you're way and pick your own path. Don't be afraid to change."

   I think this song means like some people are kind of scared to be themselves so they rely on the shadows to guide them into darkness, but the sun helps those people turn away from the evil shadows and show them the right way to be themselves.

   I think Riri was trying to tell that our mistakes don't define us and we shouldn't let them drag us down along with darkness, because we always deserve a chance to do better, for us and for the people that love and care about us... so we should stand up and rescue the best in ourselves, our sparkle...

   I think Rihanna was trying to tell us that don't worry about any bad things in life (shadows) and just look at the bright side or focus on the good things in life (sun). So turn away from the bad things and look at the good things. That is my interpretation!

   I think what Rihanna is trying to say is that no matter what misfortunes happen, whatever bad things stand in your path and drag you down. It's best to push that away, to push the "shadows" away and look towards a light(face the sun). And those misfortunes(shadows) will never find you.
