Waste Lyrics

I'm lookin' at my watch
At all the time that's been stolen
When I was carrying you
It seems I've tripped and I've fallen
Don't want no one to ache
Oh to be drunk and forgetful
To get out of this unscathed
Oh to be free and inhuman
Some...

Honestly, it's a pretty straightforward relationship song. It talks about how a guy is holding onto his love for a girl. He doesn't seem to be getting anything out of the relationship; he feels like he's "carrying" her instead of standing on equal ground in the relationship. This type of relationship eventually wears him out and leads to bad decisions or attitude, like the perception that he loves to play comes from his own disenchantment with long-term relationships. He just "mops up the floors" and wipes away all the deep relationships from his life when he thinks he's not getting anything out of them. Outsiders percieve that he's merely "letting a good thing go to waste," while he just realizes all the time he's wasted on chasing relationships that never went anywhere.

This song is very sad and may be linked to a sad event in the song writters life, (his divorce). Lets look closely at the lyrics. "Im lookin at my watch...at all the time that's been stolen..." This could be about divorce or separation between him and his wife. "When I was carrying you...it seems I've tripped and I've fallen..." This could mean that he felt guilty about the divorce. "Dont want no one to age..oh to be drunk and forgetful" Could this be a different event....i think this song is a lot of crappy events combined into one song "To get outta this on skates...oh to be free and inhuman..." he wants to leave this feeling. "Some...may say...our love....to play....when the chance is there to take..." okay I'm guessing this is the most obvious suggestion of divorce. Then the second verse goes on with not much importance and then the first verse repeats. I'm guessing this song is two stories combined, a death and a divorce, I could be wrong though.
