Go on just say it,
You need me like a bad habit,
One that leaves you defenseless, dependent, and alone.
Go on just say it (Are you afraid to?),
You need me like a bad habit, (Say what you want to, tell me you want to),
One that leaves you...

I think in my interpretation that he is singing the song from the girls perspective. “Go on just say it” he is begging her to say the words she never said. Because now he is defenseless dependent and alone. “My best side is your worst invention” is that she manipulated him to the point where he doesn’t even know who he is anymore and his best side is pleasing her. She damaged him “ way back when it mattered” and now he finally realized she’s never going to admit it. He’s never going to come back down to that level. He can’t understand why she can’t say it because she is a psychopath. So he sings it all loud and emo. He leaves her this time and she “can’t live without the attention” so it’s like he’s rubbing in her face that he’s never going to come back down to that level. He leaves because he’s protecting himself from making the same mistakes of going back down that black hole. She’s saying come back but he won’t. He sings the words he’s unfortunately never going to hear from the girl that damaged him that he thought would have any remorse.
