   Give us this day our daily bread, your legacy we'll not forget. Lick the wounds, cleanse the land... This passage says different things to me. To me, it emphasizes and disregards the Christian practices of acceptance, justification, and denial of certain human responsibilities based on "his will" implied by the inclusion of the lord's prayer. Basically, the age of ignorance is over and there is definitely a place to point the finger, and not just chock up horrible occurences to "his will"...... Yuck.

   Not bad interpretations but it doesn't have so much to do with modern day church involvement or lack thereof, the song is more directed towards the inquisition in the middle ages and the church ignoring the events. for more information check out the book called "Is belief in God good, bad or irrelevant?" conversations between Graffin and a history professor.

   This song has been said to be about the influence of the Catholic Church over the ages, the persecution it inflicted on various groups, how this evil seemed to die out but now the sinister side of this instituition is rising again in the spate of reports of child abuse by priests.
