Paradise Lyrics

Where the river runs to black

    Sep 25th report

From the album The Rising which deals with 9/11 in this song I believe Springsteen puts himself in the mind of a suicide bomber seeking paradise.
The bomber takes a satchel carried by a school kid ( perhaps his child) containing a bomb, takes a last look around the marketplace then detonates.
In the journey to the afterlife hoping to reconnect with loved ones through dreams the bomber is disappointed finding little connection.Paradise seems empty.

Immersing himself further the bomber still fails to see peace in the eyes of his loved one(s) and resurfaces to feel God's warmth and light nevertheless.
