To me it's about a relationship that both or either partners were deeply in love but for different reasons they hid their emotions and lost who they are as a person, in turn falling out of love because they don't know how to feel. The perspective us from the partner who becomes aware if this and tries to bring out the truth and heal, but it can be pointless to do for some people so far down that rabbit hole till they feel loss.
