Its the beauty that comes from interpritation. One can declare this song to be a Gator reference to drugs and sex. To me, "Gator around the warm beds of beginners" Is to go back to an impresionable state of mind, like being young when the world was Larger. It can apply to drugs, but in a naive sense, he is not talking about living for the future, instead, rapid thoughts of melancholy, destruction and beauty all flood his mind, creating the idea of weird.
Common versus common is a reference for what it sounds like. An unidentifiable enemy only to be realized as someone of your same stature.
Waiting for the click is a drinking reference, also an unsatisfying recognition that feeling good wont soon be coming and is taking longer than usual, leading to tremendous self doubt.
