   Its about heroin ...having been a user for over 20 unhappy years..heroin is classed as Lady Heroin ,she lays u down ,with a frown called a Gouch its a frown due to relaxed face muscles ,from the east to west ,opium is China white from the east and made its way to the west via the ships etc ...unless one can afford it STAY AWAY she will seduce and cost you everything

   the first time I heard the song,Golden Brown was in the movie" he died with a falafel in his hand."
   I immediately liked this song and listened to it over and over. To me the song painted a story of a young 18th century English sailor looking forward to his daily rum ration to escape the harsh world and life as a sailor. I guess that's the beauty of music there's no right or wrong just how we interpret it, and the emotions it gives us.

   The band has denied persistent accusations that the lyrics are about heroin use and trade. They claim that different listeners will hear different things in the lyrics. An alternative interpretation is that the song was about Cornwell's Mediterranean girlfriend at the time - with golden brown skin.

   It's about heroin. Simple.
   
   Heroin, in powder form, is often brown. "Texture like sun", "every time just like the last", "never a frown" etc, all references to the dreamy, impermeable feeling which opiates give.
